”We have worked very closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Danish Defence and the pre-hospital emergency management teams from the Capital Region and the Region of Southern Denmark in order to receive the group under proper precautions. Both during the journey and at arrival, the group will be informed and they will also be continuously monitored for risk of being infected with the novel coronavirus. This is in order for us to guide and inform accordingly and initiate the relevant measures”, says Søren Brostrøm, Director General of the Danish Health Authority.

In line with WHO recommendations, Chinese authorities have initiated screening of individuals leaving China, in order to ensure that individuals, who are sick from the novel coronavirus, do not leave the country.

Also, screenings may be performed during the journey, both while onboard and aircraft and in countries of transit. On the last part of the journey, the group will be accompanied by a doctor from the Danish Defence, who will perform a medical assessment of each person before boarding the Danish aircraft and before landing in Denmark.

“The group, that we will be receiviing tonight, has been on a long journey and we will of course ensure that they are well received. We do not expect them to be at great risk of being infected, but because they are arriving directly from the Hubei province we are of course taking all precautions. We will be present at their arrival with a strong emergency management team, also in case that, contrary to expectations, encounter symptomatic individuals among the group”, Søren Brostrøm says.

Two chief physicians from the Danish Patient Safety Authority will be present upon arrival and perform an individual risk assessment in order to decide whether to arrange an agreement of two weeks home quarantine.
A specialist from Statens Serum Institut will also be present in order to offer testing for the novel coronavirus to all members of the group.
