Are you returning from your winter vacation and want to check up on the newest information on the novel coronavirus

We have collected some good advice answering typical questions regarding the new disease COVID-19.

“We have been collecting the questions that we have been getting regarding the novel coronavirus and provided the answers on our website. But in general, we just welcome people home and advise people to get back to school, work and other regular activities you would normally undertake if you are healthy”, explains Søren Brostrøm, Director General of The Danish Health Authority.

If you have traveled in China, or if you have been in contact, e.g. through conversation, with a person that you know has been infected with the novel coronavirus, you should monitor yourself for airway symptoms (fever, cough or troubled breathing) within the first 14 days after your return. If you develop symptoms, you should stay at home an call your family doctor or the local emergency services. Remember to disclose that you have been traveling in China.

It is important that you call ahead before showing up at the doctor’s office or a hospital. This allows the healthcare personnel to take the necessary precautions for prevention of transmission. If you develop symptoms, remember that it may be a number of other diseases than COVID-19.

If you have traveled to countries other than China, including surrounding countries, you do not need to take any special precautions regarding the coronavirus, including if you develop symptoms. This is due to the very slim risk that your symptoms are caused by the novel coronavirus.

Advice if you are going traveling

”The best advice, if you are going traveling and want to protect yourself from viral airway infections, is good hand hygiene. This will keep you well protected – not just from infection with the novel coronavirus, but also other types of viruses. And then you should of course avoid close contact with individuals who are visibly ill with airway symptoms”, explains Søren Brostrøm.

General advice in order to avoid viral airway infections are:

  • Hand hygiene – primarily washing your hands and if necessary performing hand disinfection if the hands are visibly clean and dry
  • Avoid contact with visibly ill individuals with upper airway symptoms
  • Cough and sneezing into a disposable handkerchief, or alternatively in the inner portion of the elbow

With these precautions, you protect yourself and others from infection.
