A patient is admitted to Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby and tested for infection with the novel coronavirus

The Department of Infectious Diseases at Skejby Hospital has this evening received a patient with a fever and cough. The patient was admitted from his home and brought directly to a specialized isolation ward. After initial assessment at the hospital, the suspicion was maintained that the patient could be infected with the novel coronavirus. As a result the patient will stay admitted in isolation regime and a test sample from the patient has been sent to Statens Serum Institut. The test result is expected to arrive during the night.

The doctors at Skejby Hospital are following the guidelines of The Danish Health Authority for handling the novel coronavirus. Therefore the patient will remain in strict isolation until infection with the novel coronavirus is refuted by the test result from Statens Serum Institut. If the test is positive, the patient will remain in strict isolation while receiving treatment for the symptoms.

The patient is admitted to a specialized isolation ward with vacuum ventilation at The Department of Infectious Diseases at Skejby Hospital. The health care personnel at the ward has specialized protective equipment (protective dresses etc.) and has been trained in handling patients with specially dangerous disesase, such as e.g. the novel coronavirus, so that the personnel are not at risk of becoming infected themselves.

Other patients admitted to the department, visitors and employees at the hospital are not exposed to the infection.

The Danish Health Authority are continuously in contact with the department. The Danish Health Authority are monitoring the situation closely and will make a statement when the test result arrives.
