People aged 65 and over are offered vaccination against influenza and COVID-19
If you are 65 years of age or older, the Danish Health Authority recommends that you get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19. Vaccinations are offered free of charge from 1 October to 20 December.
How to get vaccinated
If you are eligible for vaccination, you will receive an invitation via Digital Post in September. If you are exempt from Digital Post, you will receive your invitation by regular mail.
Once you have received your invitation, you can book an appointment at vacciner.dk using MitID. If you do not have MitID, you can contact your region for help with booking.
Why is vaccination recommended?
Older age is the single greatest risk factor for severe influenza and COVID-19. As we age, the immune system gradually becomes less effective, increasing the risk of serious illness, hospitalisation and complications.
The risk is particularly high for people who also have a chronic disease or condition such as cardiovascular disease, lung disease or diabetes. However, even older adults who are otherwise healthy are at increased risk of becoming seriously ill from influenza and COVID-19.
Older people may also experience a greater loss of strength and energy during illness than younger people, and recovery can take longer.
For these reasons, the Danish Health Authority recommends vaccination against both influenza and COVID-19 for everyone aged 65 years and older.
Vvaccination reduces your risk of getting influenza and COVID-19. If you do become infected, it reduces the risk of serious illness.
Even if you have previously been vaccinated, it is important that you get vaccinated again. Protection fromvaccination decreases over time and influenza viruses and coronavirus continue to evolve. When you get vaccinated again, you will be better protected against these diseases during the winter season.
Vaccination is free of charge and voluntary.
